Licence and License

Shoutout to my housemate Jo for inspiring this blog..

It follows a conversation we had when moving into our flat, about television licences.

To quote:
"what's the difference between licence with a c and license with an s?"

It's quite a simple rule to get your head around but still remains one of the most common spelling/grammatical error made...

Here it is:

Licence with a c is the noun.

License with an s is the verb.

In sentences:
I have a television licence.
I need to license my television.

Further examples:

Practice/practise.

I went to football practice.
I practise my football.

Advice/Advise.

I want some advice.
Can you advise me?
